Deqing County in Zhaoqing, Guangdong is one of China’s primary origins for Bajitian (Morinda officinalis). Neighboring towns also cultivate the vine, but Deqing remains a key hub for fresh-root trade and core-pulling workshops.

South of the Tropic of Cancer, the subtropical climate — abundant rain and sunlight — supports multi-year growth. Roots are typically cultivated for six years or longer before harvest.
